Past Road Trips – Part 2
Going through old pre-digital era photos is fun. Having to turn the sleeves full of old prints forces me to slow down and remember in a way that scrolling through digital photos on my computer simply doesn’t allow.
Which leads me to today’s road trip post. I couldn’t stop at just one photo album. And, since Abby wasn’t even born during that trip to Yellowstone, it is only fair that I look at another road trip, one that included the four of us.
And here it is: We drove from the Twin Cities to Chicago with a three-year-old and a 16-year-old.
We saw the Cubs play the Brewers at Wrigley Field. I can’t remember who won, but I do remember it was Sammy Sosa’s birthday. And I thought my daughter was going to get crushed afterwards in the crowd surge to the L.
We took Shawn to the Hard Rock Cafe.
We took Abby to the Lincoln Zoo.
We went to the other side of the city to see the Indiana Dunes National Shoreline before turning back towards Minnesota.
And we liked driving to Chicago so much we did it again the following year. We visited the the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, took a boat ride to see the Chicago skyline, ate at outdoor cafes. We walked to the Pier and rode the ferris wheel. Shawn skateboarded. We saw the Chicago Bulls return to their hometown amidst a big celebration. We all got along, even when Abby didn’t think Shawn should look out her window in the car.
It might be time to go there again.
